Saghmosavank

Saghmosavank Monastery

The monastery complexes of Saghmosavank are on the edge of the precipitous gorge of the Kasakh river. The main temple was erected by Prince Vache Vachutyan — the Church of Zion in Saghmosavank (1215 y.), which belongs to the same type of cross-winged domed structure with two-floor annexes in all the corners of the building. In the territory of the Monastery, the book depository of Saghmosavank built in 1255 A.D.under Prince Kurd Vachutyan is among Armenia’s rare buildings. On the territory of the monasteries many richly ornamented stonecrosses have been preserved.
