Tsakhkadzor
(55 km from Yerevan, elevation 1700-1900 m)
Tsakhkadzor, which means “gorge of flowers” in Armenian, is famous for its shady forests and flowering meadows, attracting a large number of tourists and residents. This picturesque place is often referred to as “Little Switzerland” due to its stunning beauty, which you can fully appreciate by taking the 2,500-meter-long ropeway to the higher mountains. In winter, the snowy meadows become a perfect spot for skiing. On reaching the second level of the ropeway, there is a café where you can take a break, enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee, and then continue your climb to 2,500 meters. Winter is ideal for adventurers, with snow scooters available to ride down the slopes, as well as snowboards, sleighs, and skis for rent.
The trip also includes a visit to the Kecharis Monastery (built in 1551), located on the eastern edge of Tsakhkadzor, a significant architectural and artistic site.
Before leaving the town, be sure to dine at one of the local taverns to taste the traditional Armenian country food, offering an unforgettable culinary experience.
