Khachatur Abovyan House-Museum
Kanaker 2nd str.4 house, YerevanThe Khachatur Abovyan House-Museum holds a special place in the hearts of Armenians, symbolizing a deep reverence for one of the nation’s greatest enlighteners. Historically, the house remained closed, but its significance was so profound that pilgrims would timidly kiss its walls and take a handful of soil as a token of devotion.
A long-standing wish of the Armenian people to transform the home of Khachatur Abovyan into a museum was finally fulfilled in 1939. Following the establishment of Soviet power, the Council of People’s Commissars of the Armenian SSR issued a decree on April 25, 1938, to reconstruct the writer’s house in Kanaker. By the end of 1939, it was officially inaugurated as a house-museum.
The newly built museum features a 500-square-meter exhibition space, divided into 12 departments, showcasing the life, work, and enduring legacy of Khachatur Abovyan, a pivotal figure in Armenian literature and education.
