The Sergey Parajanov Museum: A Tribute to a Visionary Artist
1bld, Sergey Parajanov str. YerevanNestled in the scenic Dzoragyugh area of Yerevan, the Sergey Parajanov Museum celebrates the legacy of the acclaimed film director, screenwriter, and artist Sergey Parajanov. Established in 1991, a year after his death, this museum embodies Parajanov’s boundless creativity and profound connection to his three “homelands”: Georgia, where he found his artistic voice; Ukraine, which brought him love, joy, and global recognition; and Armenia, where my roots are and where I would like to live the rest of my life”. where my roots are and where I would like to live the rest of my life”.
The museum’s story began in 1988, when friend and curator Zaven Sargsyan hosted an exhibition of Parajanov’s work in Yerevan, which the artist himself attended. Inspired by Parajanov’s words and the exhibition’s success, Sargsyan approached the Armenian government to create a museum that would house the artist’s vibrant legacy. Parajanov personally chose the current two-story building under construction in Dzoragyugh for its picturesque setting, envisioning it as a space where visitors could experience his work among the beauty of the surroundings.
Although Parajanov was unable to see the completion of his dream, the museum was inaugurated in his memory, offering an inspiring space where his films, collages, and artworks continue to captivate and connect people from around the world.
