Yervand Kochar Museum
39/12 Mashtots Avenue, YerevanThe Yervand Kochar Museum was founded in 1984 on the basis of the Maestro’s studio. The studio occupies a part of the current museum. This area was not only a workshop, but also the artist’s residence for many years.
The creative heritage of Yervand Kochar /1899 — 1979/ is one of the important expressions of Modern art of the 20th century.
The Parisian works of 1923-36 placed Kochar’s name among the greats who determined the European Avant-garde and the further course of world fine art. Kochar is the founder of spatial painting /”Peinture dans l’espace”/. Plastic — a new artistic expression, which includes time as an additional fourth dimension.
The works of the great aesthete are exhibited in various museums around the world and with private collectors, but only in this museum can one get the most complete idea of Yervand Kochar’s unique art. Paintings, graphics, sculptures and spatial paintings of the “Tiflis”, “Paris”, “Yerevan” periods are presented.
The Yervand Kochar Museum also organizes lectures, debates, meetings. It is considered one of the important centers for the study of the historical avant-garde.
